Lifestyle

A number of lifestyle habits, such as smoking and alcohol consumption are important for the development of certain types of cancer and other morbidity in the population. It is therefore important to investigate the occurrence of these lifestyle habits, and study the connection between social status, lifestyle, and risk behaviour in general.

Within the unit, there are a number of projects focusing on lifestyle, risk behaviour, and social status. The data for this research is primarily drawn from three large population based studies among Danish men and women, the HERCULES study among men, and the LIVA and FREJA studies among women. Furthermore, data from the HPV cohort is used to examine changes in lifestyle habits over time.

Examples of projects
  • Sexual habits among Danish men and women, including focus on geographical and socioeconomic differences in behaviour
  • Incidence of sexually transmitted diseases among women in the Nordic countries
  • Smoking among Danish men and women, including focus on geographical and socioeconomic differences in behaviour
  • Alcohol debut and "binge-drinking”"
  • Socio-demographic factors and their impact on the BMI
  • Use of pain-relieving medication among Danish men and women
