Pharmaco-Epidemiology and Cancer

Certain types of commonly used drugs, marketed for reasons other than cancer, have received large-scale attention for their potential anti-cancer effect. A few examples of such drugs are aspirin, paracetamol, statins, etc.

Given that these commonly used drugs have well known safety profiles and typically are inexpensive, a possible role in prevention or treatment of cancer is of high interest. In our unit, we evaluate the association between use of these drugs and the risk of specific cancers, or mortality from these cancers. In particular, we focus on gynecological cancers, breast cancer, and HPV-related cancers.
